May 18, 2005 Red Sox 4, A's 3

Strat-O-Matic Report

Nice little comeback for the Sox as a top of the 9th Bellhorn homer ties the game. Damon reaches 2nd on a hit and error, goes to 3rd on a groundout, and scores on an Ortiz grounder to first as the A's throw home on a 1-19 chance that Damon would be safe. Didn't count as a sacrafice though, as that would be amazing for Big Papi! A little bit of a sweat in the bottom of the 9th as Foulke gives up two hits, but holds on for the save.

Center fielder Johnny Damon lofted one into the 'cheap seats' as the Boston
Red Sox staged a dramatic comeback over the Oakland Athletics by a score of 4
to 3 at McAfee Coliseum.

Boston came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs
using 2 hits. Mark Bellhorn started the attack as he cracked a solo homerun
(his 4th of the season). Damon was next and he laced a one-base hit, and an
error was also committed. After an out was recorded, David Ortiz came up and
he would hit into a fielders choice scoring the final run of the inning.
Oakland had 12 hits in the game while Boston had 7, but Boston had the more
timely hits.

John Halama(1-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 2/3 of an inning and
allowing no runs. Keith Foulke recorded his 10th save. Huston Street(0-1)
absorbed the loss in relief.

'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Damon said. 'If you just
keep trying good things can happen!'
