May 29, 2005 Red Sox 6, Yankees 5

Strat-O-Matic Report

One of the more exciting games I have had. Sox stormed out in front 6-0 after 3, but Wells couldn't hold the Yankees back as they came back and tied the game. In the 9th, after Bellhorn walked, a balk was called on Tom Gordon, as Bellhorn went to second. Renteria singled, scoring Bellhorn and putting the Sox back into the lead. Foulke comes in for the 9th, and then it got interesting. Jeter and Womack led off the inning with back to back singles, putting runners on first and second. After Sheffield struck out, A-Rod hits one into right field. Jeter head for home to tie it, but a great throw by Trot throws Jeter out at the plate. Posada then popped out to give the Sox the hard fought win as they avoid the series sweep.

55,638 fans watched an exciting game at Yankee Stadium. The Boston Red Sox
were able to stop their 5 game losing streak and topped the New York (AL)
Yankees by the slimmest of margins, 7 to 6.

Boston scored the deciding run in the 9th inning. After an out was recorded,
Mark Bellhorn drew a walk. A balk was called. After another out, Edgar
Renteria stepped in and he lashed a single scoring the run. New York (AL)
had 13 hits in the game while Boston had 8, but Boston had the more timely
hits.

Mike Myers(2-0) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Keith Foulke recorded his 12th save. Tom Gordon(3-1) absorbed the
loss in relief.
