June 24, 2005 Red Sox 6, Phillies 5 (10)
Strat-O-Matic Report
Interesting first game in the annual Sox-Phillies matchup. Phils led, 5-3, entering the 9th with Wagner coming in to nail down the game. Instead, this happened: Varitek and Youkilis each get pinch-hit walks. Payton hits a pinch-hit double, Varitek scores. Now it is 5-4. I intentionally walk Damon to load the bases to set up the force at home. It works, as Renteria's grounder to second is thrown home to nail Youkilis. Big Papi strikes out for the second out. Then, Wagner hits Manny with a pitch to force the tying run home.
In the top of the 10th, Bill Mueller leads off with a homer off Geoff Geary (which is Geary's first homer given up for the season), and Foulke nails down the save. Embree, Timlin and Foulke combined to throw 4 perfect innings.
