June 13, 2005 Red Sox 4, Reds 1
Strat-O-Matic Report
Every run in this game came on a homerun as the first game of the series of red goes to the Red Sox. Solo shots by Millar, Mueller, Payton and Varitek and Ken Griffey Jr account for the scoring, as the Sox win their 3rd game in the last 4. Maybe now they will finally start winning like they should be!!

June 12, 2005 Phillies 6, Brewers 5 (11)
Strat-O-Matic Report
I have never had a game won on a wild pitch before - until today!! The bottom of the 11th went like this:
Pratt doubled and Lieberthal singles, but Pratt had to hold third. Jimmy Rollins hits a grounder to second, but with the Brewers playing the infield in, Pratt was thrown out at home trying to score. Lieberthat went to second. Kenny Lofton hits a sure double play ball to short, but beats the relay to first. Lieberthat goes to third. With Bobby Abreu at the plate, Cubs pitcher Ricky Bottalico lets one fly to the backstop as Lieberthal trots home with the winning run!!
None of this would have happened if not for Jason Michaels' 2-run pinch hit homer in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game, and Aaron Fultz's 3 shutout innings in relief. Not the prettiest win, but a win nonetheless!

Philadelphia had a total of 12 hits for the game.
The win went to Aaron Fultz(2-0) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Jorge De La
Rosa(0-2) was given the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a batter

Strat-O-Matic Report
Three things happened in this game....the Sox finally won an extra inning game, they ended a 6 game losing streak, and Foulke actually held onto a save!! Good pitchers duel between Greg Maddux and Bronson Arroyo (although neither pitcher got a decision as Maddux was pinch hit for when the Cubs were trailing, and Arroyo was still on the mound when the Cubs ties it in the 9 is won on a Bellhorn bases loaded single which scores one run. I can see why Big Papi usually doesn't play the field, as so far in the four NL park games he had made 3 errors (none in this game anyway)!! Can't wait to go back to the AL parks!!

One run was the difference at Wrigley Field as the Boston Red Sox were able to
stop their 6 game losing streak and defeated the Chicago (NL) Cubs in 11
innings 3 to 2.
The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Boston won the hard fought
contest in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Manny Ramirez drew a
walk. Kevin Youkilis dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.
Jason Varitek then drew a walk. Mike Wuertz then let loose a wild pitch.
Bill Mueller stepped into the box and was walked intentionally to load the
bases. Mark Bellhorn kept things alive and delivered a single scoring the
run. Boston totaled 9 on the afternoon.
Mike Timlin(2-2) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Keith Foulke
earned his 15th save. Wuertz(1-3) absorbed the loss in relief.
'We really needed this win' said Terry Francona. 'That first drink of water
at the end of a drought sure does taste good!'

Strat-O-Matic Report
The Sox lose their 6th straight and continue to find new ways to lose. Had a 3-0 lead until Wells began to tire in the 8th, and then the bullpen went to work. Two blown saves in the game, as after the Cards tied it in the 8th the Sox went ahead twice, in the 9th and 10th, only to have the overworked bullpen cough it up both times. Foulke actually blew the lead twice! I decided to let him bat in the 10th, because the Sox had retaken the lead already, and the pen had been used so much lately gave him another shot at a save. What does he do - gives up 2 homers and the Cardinals tie it again. St. Louis eventually wins it in the 11th. I put the play account in so you can see the distungness for yourself.

June 4, 2005 Diamondbacks 8, Phillies 6
Strat-O-Matic Report
Game 1 of a doubleheader is a back and forth game, and it turns into the most agonizing defeat of the season. Entering the 9th, the Phillies had the lead, 6-4, with Wagner on the mound. Looks like a sure win. A leadoff walk, then 2 quick outs. Then, all hell breaks lose. A single by Counsell, a 2-run double by Royce Clayton, and Luis Gonsales' 2- run homerun puts the nail in the casket. Phils go down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 9th, and the Diamondbacks slither away with the win. Ugh!

Jose Valverde finished beautifully as the Arizona Diamondbacks won in dramatic
fashion over the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 10 to 8 at Citizen's
Bank Park.
Arizona scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning scoring 4
runners on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Luis Gonzalez
who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he lifted one out of the
park for a two run home run (his 8th of the season). The game was a wild
affair with the lead changing hands 5 times.
Lance Cormier(3-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Valverde earned the save, his 8th. Billy Wagner(0-2) was
the losing pitcher in relief.
'We just kept swinging the bats and didn't give up,' Craig Counsell said. 'If
you just keep trying good things can happen!'
June 4, 2005 Angels 7, Red Sox 6 (11)
Strat-O-Matic Report
Despite having the lead twice in the game, the Sox can't hold it and fall to 0-6 in extra innings for the season. John Halama went 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, but naturally Brendan Donnelly of the Angels also pitched 3 innings of scoreless ball at the same time. Dallas McPherson's sac fly puts the Halos back in front in the 11th, and the Sox go down in order against Francisco Rodrigues, who also saved the Angels win over the Sox the previous day.
