Troy Glaus slammed 2 homeruns as the National League ballclub won in dramatic
fashion over the American League ballclub by a score of 6 to 4 at the
ballpark.

National League erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th
inning with 3 runs on 4 hits. Glaus initiated the scoring when he delivered
a solo blast (his 2nd of the season). One out later, Ramon Hernandez struck
out, unable to help the rally. Felipe Lopez then laced a base-hit. Brian
Giles was up next and he doubled. Derrek Lee came to the plate and doubled
which was good for two more runs. National League had 12 hits for the night
while American League had 9.

Todd Jones(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Jason Isringhausen
got the save, his 1st. Mariano Rivera(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He
allowed 3 runs and 4 hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Frank Robinson was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office
after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just
sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating
wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'

July 17, 2005 Red Sox 11, Yankees 7

Strat-O-Matic Report

This was the long ball game, with 8 homeruns between the two teams. After having their 9 game winning streak snapped the previous game, the Sox start a new one in convincing fashion. Nice spread around offense, as every player on the team had at least one hit and scored at least one run, and all but Mirabelli and Damon had at least one RBI. Wakefield, after beginning to run out of gas in the 5th, was denied the win by not going 5 innings. If you ask me, Schilling should have got the win as until Sheffield hit a 2-run homer in the 9th off him, he was doing great in long relief. Instead, the win goes to Embree who faces one batter.
